Equine Internship
Duration & Time Commitment
- June 5, 2023 – August 4, 2023
- Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 3:15pm
- Opportunity to work events and birthday parties on the weekends during our season
Mission of Position
This position is focused on enhancing the interaction between the campers and the horses at camp. We are looking for someone who is able to teach basic horsemanship to different age groups throughout the summer. Also there is an opportunity to create games and activities that allow campers to interact with our horses in more ways than just our arena riding program. We are open to any and all suggestions on how to diversify our horse program, and are excited to hear your ideas!
Qualifications
- Have experience riding horses
- Be able to teach and show different horsemanship exercises to the campers
- A self-motivated individual who is able to work cooperatively with other interns, staff, campers, and parents
- Must be enrolled in college
- Must be able to be on their feet and energetic throughout the day
Duties Include
- Creating fun/interactive games with the campers and horses
- Teaching campers about parts of horses/tack/other horsemanship information
- Working in the arena with our other horse staff on non-activity days
- Helping maintain our horses health (to include hoof/skin care)
- Having a group of campers each week
- Meeting with administrator each week to go over the current week and what the plan will be for the week ahead

- To further engage our campers with horses
- To broaden their knowledge, comfortability, and confidence around horses
- To showcase how and why caring for animals is important
- Adding intrinsic value to the camper, summer, and intern experience through creativity
- To allow the intern an opportunity to make a measured and real impact on Camp Hi-Ho
